Adopt HERCEG

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Estimated birthdate: December 2022 Brief info: friendly, people-oriented, active, sporty, curious, adventure-loving, eager to learn, attentive, cuddly, family+, older children+, male dogs+, female dogs+ In the neighborhood of shelter manager Kata lives an elderly man and a similarly aged large Kuvasz male dog. Although the Kuvasz lives outdoors, he was always free on the large fenced-in property. Recently, the daughter moved in with her dog HERCEG, who was born around December 2022, at her father’s place, which the old Kuvasz did not like. Therefore, the two male dogs could not be let out together in the garden. Both were therefore chained to separate dog houses – a not-so-good situation for neither of them :-(. Kata, who has known and likes the Kuvasz for a long time, could not bear to see this situation and suggested finding a new home for HERCEG so that both dogs could live an appropriate life. The father and daughter agreed, and HERCEG came to the animal shelter at the end of October 2025. Now, the Kuvasz can move freely on the property again. Now, the very people-oriented HERCEG only needs a wonderful home. He is an active, sporty, curious, and adventure-loving dogman, with whom one can surely undertake all sorts of adventures. He is attentive, open-minded, and happy to walk on a leash. He also enjoys every pat and affection and can then also stop and rest. He is also compatible with his fellow animals and shows a more reserved side. For the wonderful HERCEG, we are now looking for active people with solid dog experience who want to discover the world with him. Of course, he still needs to learn all the things necessary for a regular dog’s life. But he is smart, eager to please, and wants to do everything right. He would certainly be enthusiastic about an appropriate dog sport or be suitable as a jogging or hiking companion. HERCEG will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport for his new home. Has the handsome fellow captured your heart? Then we look forward to your message!

About HERCEG

What life with HERCEG looks like

HERCEG is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting HERCEG, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about HERCEG?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw HERCEG on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt HERCEG if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is HERCEG already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if HERCEG isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know HERCEG and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
