Hermann (m)

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Hermann is a male dog, approximately 8 years old, living at the municipal animal shelter in Botoșani, Romania—a holding facility that houses over 800 dogs. It’s a place where cramped conditions, noise, stress, territorial fights, food jealousy, and far too little human affection define daily life. Most of the dogs there are cared for only by a handful of dedicated volunteers. They’re brought to the shelter by the city—and then mostly left to their own fate. We don’t know how long Hermann has been living there, nor how he ended up in this shelter in the first place. No one knows his story. And that’s precisely what makes it so heartbreaking. Because Hermann is just one of countless dogs who go unnoticed—dogs that people walk right past, preferring instead to look for a puppy. Yet it’s precisely dogs like Hermann who have so much love to give. Dogs who, with a bit of patience, can settle wonderfully into a loving home and bring their humans many more beautiful years together. The volunteer helpers on the ground deliberately drew our attention to Hermann. They tell us that he used to have bright, joyful eyes—eyes full of hope. But that sparkle is fading more and more. And that’s exactly what happens to so many dogs there: day after day, they slowly give up a tiny bit of hope. They become quieter, more tired, and sadder. Eventually, they stop believing that anyone will ever come for them. We don’t want Hermann to become one of those dogs who grow old in the shelter and end up dying there, forgotten. That’s why we’re looking for people for this sweet senior who won’t focus on his age but on his heart—people who’ll show him that life still holds so much beauty in store. A soft bed, loving hands, walks, security, and the feeling of finally being truly home. Who will give Hermann the chance he so desperately deserves? Who has a spot open for this wonderful male dog and will show him that it’s worth hoping once again? Please share Hermann’s story so that the very person he’s been waiting for so long can find him. Hermann is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, treated against fleas, and naturally comes with an EU pet passport. Before traveling abroad, a SNAP-4D test will be conducted. Contact: Hermann is being rehomed through Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V.—with pre-adoption screening and a protection contract. The organization is duly authorized under §11 of the Animal Welfare Act. Even after adoption, we’ll continue to provide you with ongoing support—for both you and your new companion. Hermann will travel to Germany and arrive in 91278 Pottenstein, where he’d also like to be picked up. There, a secure outdoor area is available. We ask for your understanding that we don’t want to arrange drop-offs at parking lots and would prefer to personally introduce you to your new furry friend.

About Hermann (m)

What life with Hermann (m) looks like

Hermann (m) is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. in Nürnberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hermann (m), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hermann (m)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hermann (m) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hermann (m) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hermann (m) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hermann (m) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiernothilfe Casa Katharina e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hermann (m) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
