Hermes

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: The loving mixed-breed male dog Hermes was a street dog, like so many dogs in Spain. He had to fend for himself, fighting for his food every day, finding clean water, and a shelter for the night. That is no easy life. Dogs learn to trust only themselves at first, because everything else is not stable. Hermes was in no good physical condition when found. He was plagued by many ticks, and he was much too thin. Hermes had probably not had a good life before. He is still cautious in his interactions with the caregivers. He has likely never experienced that a human hand can also be gentle, not just harmful. Hermes is a very friendly dog, he just needs time and patience from his people. The loving male dog wants to be loved and spoiled, but he still doesn’t quite trust stepping out of his comfort zone. Hermes gets along well with all the dogs at the animal shelter. There are no problems here. He also practices walking on a leash diligently, it is still a bit “strange” for him, he goes slowly and cautiously. We are sure that he will learn this when he realizes that nothing bad will happen to him. Hermes is looking for loving, patient, empathetic, and experienced dog-people. He needs a hand to lean on and the security of being well-treated. Then he will definitely step by step come out of his shell and enjoy life. Who will finally give Hermes the home he so deserves? Please note:

About Hermes

What life with Hermes looks like

Hermes is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hermes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hermes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hermes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hermes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hermes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hermes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hermes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
