Adopt Hermes

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Hermes was severely traumatized upon arrival at STAAD, showing no interest in anything for long periods, with his head nestled in Mihaela’s lap. Thankfully, this changed within a few days, and soon, Hermes was his usual, happy self. He is an incredibly loving boy who takes good care of his chosen people. These chosen ones are those who offer a present relationship, have a welcoming and accepting attitude, enjoy being outdoors with their dog, and have pockets full of treats. Additionally, Hermes loves to play together. Hermes can live as a single dog in his new home but also shares his home happily with a joyful companion. He has always lived with cats around, more or less ignoring them. What is important to him is to be seen, appreciated, and included—and to be close. This boy forms strong bonds with his people and becomes a fantastic companion. We are now seeking a welcoming forever home for our statutory Hermes without young children. The home should have “space” around it (garden, countryside) as he is used to roaming and keeping an eye on his “possessions.” It is important that you have a lot of time to devote to Hermes as he loves shared naps and adventures—in a good mix. Background: Hermes came from a small village outside the holiday resort of Neptun on the Black Sea. The properties were divided, and the two dogs were left to their fate—uncommonly, in this region. One—a small terrier—got a new home immediately. The other dog, a larger hound, refused to go anywhere and was taken to Biobaza to be gassed with a painful death looming. The conditions are terrible—dogs are going to die anyway—brutally. Hermes was so shocked that he couldn’t even stand up—he curled up in a corner and lay there with his head turned away. Mihaela, who runs her small shelter, STAAD, heard what had happened. She knew Hermes and managed, after a week of agitated discussions with Biobaza’s management, to get him away from there.

About Hermes

What life with Hermes looks like

Hermes is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hermes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hermes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hermes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hermes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hermes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hermes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hermes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
