Hermes

Male · Senior · 10 years

Hermes is a senior dog who loves closeness and contact with humans. He arrived at the animal shelter neglected and underweight. His past was certainly not good. However, he remained a gentle canine. He eagerly responds to affection and initiates contact, but he is incredibly gentle. He quickly opens up to new acquaintances. Hermes is extremely intelligent and sensitive. One thing we are sure of is that for Hermes, the most important thing is a human, and we are looking for a family focused on the dog and having time for him. Hermes arrived at the animal shelter with a female dog named Atena, with whom he lived in the same kennel. He accepted her and they went for walks together. Atena has already found a home. Hermes nervously and aggressively reacts to other dogs during walks. Despite his age, he still has strength and can pull when emotions towards dogs take over. At the animal shelter, we are working with him on relationships with his own kind, and in the company of stable female dog, Hermes can walk calmly and respect the boundaries of another dog. Work on his relationships with dogs will certainly require continuation after adoption. We are looking for a home for Hermes that first of all knows the specifics of the breed. Families that know what caring for a greyhound involves and what his needs are, as well as the needs of a senior dog. Hermes will not find himself in a house where there is a lot going on and there are small children. The walking areas should be quiet, without intense city traffic. In the adoption process, we recommend a pre-adoption visit to check how Hermes will adjust to the home and the potential walking area. If Hermes were to go to a home where there is already another dog, an introduction to the resident is required. We do not recommend Hermes for a home with cats.

Hermes to charci seniorek, który lubi bliskość i kontakt z człowiekiem. Przyjechał do schroniska zaniedbany i wychudzony. Jego przeszłość z pewnością dobra nie była. Jednak on pozostał czułym czworonogiem. Do schroniska Hermes przyjechał z suczką Ateną, z którą mieszkał w jednym boksie. Akceptował ją i wspólnie spacerowali. Atena znalazła już dom. Hermes na spacerach nerwowo i gwałtownie reaguje na inne psy. Pomimo wieku nadal ma siłę i potrafi pociągnąć gdy emocje w stosunku do psów biorą górę. W schronisku pracujemy z nim nad relacjami ze swoim gatunkiem i w towarzystwie stabilnych suczek Hermes potrafi spacerować w spokoju i respektować granicę drugiego psa. Asia 693120248 Marta 508644615

About Hermes

What life with Hermes looks like

Hermes is a large senior dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Requires ongoing behavioral work with dogs, needs quiet environment, senior care needs

Frequently asked

Adopting Hermes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hermes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hermes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hermes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hermes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hermes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hermes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
