Hook

Male · Young · 1 year

Hook is a gentle young tomcat who was found with a paw injury last year and brought to our animal shelter. One of his front right paw toes was missing – likely from an accident. His paw has since healed well, and Hook has moved into the cattery. He is open and can be very affectionate, but he can also be a bit reserved at first – because he often reacts insecurely and anxiously. For cat beginners, Hook is not a good fit, as one should know and understand the cats well. Even with a lot of cat experience, Hook's body language is not always easy to read. Often, he wags his tail like a dog. What could be a sign of restlessness or tension in another cat appears normal for Hook. Due to his paw injury and his somewhat special gait, Hook was examined by a specialist, where no orthopedic abnormalities were found. We still have an appointment with a neurologist, where we hope to learn more. We are looking for a family that knows how to handle Hook and his behavior. He has no problem with other animals, but we will continue to observe whether he seeks out contact with other cats on his own. We would prefer a young tomcat like Hook in a home where another, very social four-legged friend can provide him with some security. It is likely that the charming Hook spent his previous life on the streets. At the animal shelter, he still likes to stay outside, so we will be placing him as an outdoor cat in the future. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

DE·Show original

About Hook

What life with Hook looks like

Hook is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hook, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hook?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hook on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hook if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hook already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hook isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hook and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
