Adopt Hope

English Bulldog · Female · 5 years

I am Hope, a bulldog with character, heart, and my own stubborn head. That’s me: At the animal shelter, I show myself to be approachable, friendly, and very people-oriented – yet still typically bulldog: confident, curious, food-motivated, and also stubborn. I love cuddles, but only if the timing is right. When I came back to my old home, I arrived with severe pain and frequent false pregnancies; unfortunately, that wasn’t treated. In this overburdened situation, a bite incident occurred. Here at the animal shelter, I am medically attended to and taken seriously – that clearly does me good. Unfortunately, I already have hip dysplasia with arthritis, and I am also an allergen. I can wear a muzzle, know basic commands, travel comfortably by car, and even get along with cats. And yes: I am very careful to make sure that no food falls down anywhere – my future home must pay attention to that. Additionally, I sometimes defend “mine” – but that should be resolvable with good management. I wish for a loving, breed- or at least dog-experienced home with clear rules and people who take me seriously without overwhelming me. Important to me is an ground-floor home or one with an elevator, so my joints are spared. On the topic of food, I can be very opinionated; here, I need reliable management to avoid conflicts. With sympathy, it could also work with an existing dog. My hip pain medication is covered by the animal shelter, and additional accompanying physiotherapy would be ideal. Allergen-friendly food belongs to me just as much as a quiet, structured everyday life. Is a stubborn, opinionated head exactly what you still need for your happiness? If you have experience and enough calmness to bring, contact me through the inquiry form below or by phone at our area with my animal caretakers.

About Hope

What life with Hope looks like

Hope is a large adult english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia with arthritis, food allergies, requires pain medication, needs ground floor housing or elevator access, resource guarding around food

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hope, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hope?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hope on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hope if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hope already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hope isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hope and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
