Hubert

Shih Tzu · Male · Senior · 9 years

Hubert came to us at the animal shelter due to an allergy of his previous owner and is now waiting for a new home where he can enjoy his golden years in peace. The friendly senior shows himself to be an exceptionally people-oriented and uncomplicated dog. He enjoys the company of his trusted people very much and is delighted by any form of attention and affection. Hubert is also compatible with children and other dogs. Due to his age, Hubert is no longer among the most active four-legged friends. Comfortable walks and quality time with his people suit him much better than extensive adventures. Like many of his Shih Tzu counterparts, Hubert also suffers from health issues that can be traced back to breeding-related characteristics. His eyes are particularly affected: he suffers from bilateral keratitis and requires eye drops several times a day. His future people should therefore be prepared to provide the necessary care reliably and to ensure regular veterinary check-ups of his eyes. For Hubert, we wish to find a loving home where his needs as an older dog are respected and where he receives the care he deserves. If you are looking for a quiet place for a friendly and grateful senior, you will find a pleasant companion in Hubert. Do you think you are the right person for Gina or would you like to get to know her?

About Hubert

What life with Hubert looks like

Hubert is a small senior shih tzu dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hubert, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hubert?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hubert on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hubert if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hubert already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hubert isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hubert and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
