Adopt Hugo - Dobermann

Doberman · Male · Senior · 10 years

* Hugo is looking forward to animal sponsors * Born: 2016, in the animal shelter since: March 2018, male, neutered Dobermann. Hugo is nine years old, and unfortunately, he has already spent seven of those years in the animal shelter. He was given up due to severe biting incidents and was close to being euthanized. When a dog reacts so severely, there are likely triggers for his behavior that do not lie with the animal. Hugo was thoroughly examined by a veterinarian, and two major issues were found. First, Hugo suffers from a subclinical thyroid dysfunction. Since he has been receiving tablets twice daily, his behavior has significantly improved. Additionally, Hugo unfortunately does not have the best hips, but so far, this has not caused him too many problems. As a precaution, Hugo was tested for DCM, and fortunately, there are no signs of this heart muscle disease. Hugo has made great progress in his development at the animal shelter. He has his trusted people, whom he fully trusts. Hugo will only be rehomed to experienced dog owners who are aware of the responsibility of taking in a dog with his history. Hugo is a typical Doberman, extremely territorial and alert. His prey drive is very pronounced, making walks sometimes a bit challenging. During encounters with other dogs, he likes to show off, but he can be quickly calmed by increasing distance early and appropriate handling. He shares a room with a female dog, but it would not be so easy with male dogs. Hugo will not be rehomed to a household with children, cats, or small animals. For Doberman fans and connoisseurs who are willing to invest time and effort, Hugo is definitely a dream dog. Hugo wants to please, but sometimes he stands in his own way. Hugo definitely deserves a home again. Share this page Copy link To protect the animals to be placed and to cover costs, we charge an adoption fee per animal.

About Hugo - Dobermann

What life with Hugo - Dobermann looks like

Hugo - Dobermann is a large senior doberman dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dingolfing-Landau e.V. / Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn in Dingolfing.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo - Dobermann, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo - Dobermann?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dingolfing-Landau e.V. / Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo - Dobermann on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo - Dobermann if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dingolfing-Landau e.V. / Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo - Dobermann already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo - Dobermann isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dingolfing-Landau e.V. / Tierheim Quellenhof Passbrunn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo - Dobermann and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
