Adopt Zuma

Doberman · Male · Senior · 10 years

Thank you dear helpers and an involved previous owner, Zuma has been in the new temporary home since November 21, 2015, without further stay at the shelter and was finally rehomed to Kriebitzsch in January 2016! ——————————————— I am female, spayed, and born in 2008. I have been waiting for a new home since October 2015. I am about 60 cm tall. This is what my previous owner says about me: Hovawart-Doberman mix (according to animal shelter), approximately 60 cm shoulder height, weighs around 23 to 25 kg, seven years old, spayed, microchipped, no health restrictions or illnesses, house-trained, knows basic commands (she needs clear instructions), alert behavior (alerts by barking at doorbells and loud noises in the house - like doors slamming), constantly seeks contact and attention from her human and is very cuddly. She is very curious and playful for her age. Zuma is very intelligent and still very capable of learning. Typical breed drive for movement, the forest is her favorite playground. The coat can be easily brushed, paws dried and ticks removed. Children of school age, with appropriate sense of responsibility by the parents, are no problem. After a certain acclimatization period, she can be left alone at home without problems. Gets along well with male dogs, with female dogs it varies. Not compatible with cats due to typical prey drive. Barks when left alone in front of a shop. Why am I looking for a new home: For some time now, I have been thinking whether I can offer my dog a sufficient home. Since I work full-time and in shifts, I have reluctantly decided to look for a better one for her. For my dog, I wish: A place close to people and integrated into the family, with more time to attend to her needs and not have her alone for so long. She needs much more interaction and an owner who is familiar with dogs. She is very playful and likes being outside a lot. I would like a house with a large yard for her. An informal meeting is possible. Note:

Hinweis:

About Zuma

What life with Zuma looks like

Zuma is a medium-sized senior doberman dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zuma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zuma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zuma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zuma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zuma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zuma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zuma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
