Hugo

German Shorthaired Pointer · Male · Adult · 4 years

October 2026 Hugo is a very handsome 18 month old boy who sadly isn’t getting along with the other male who is a few months older in the household, he does however get on well with the third dog a pug. The family are struggling to keep the dogs separate with work and family commitments, so they are looking for a new home for him. Hugo is described as a lovely mild mannered boy. He’s not bothered by other dogs out on a walk and has run away from a cat, his reactions around most livestock are unknown but he is very good with the families hamsters and he was good when meeting the sheep he barked excitedly but then stopped once told. Hugo is currently living with children 4 years up to a teenager and apart from giving them a strong paw as affection he’s wonderful with them. When meeting people he does jump up with excitement in a loving way, he only barks at the delivery people when they come to the door. His owner says that out on walks he will come back but wont always let you get him straight away. he treats it like a game. This is worse for his mum than his dad who he does recall to. He has never been left in kennels so his reactions are unknown but it’s believed that he wouldn’t like it because he loves being around people as much as he can. He likes learning new things and knows all his basic commands. Hugo has been used to being left at home while the family work, usually in his very large crate in the kitchen with the other dogs for company, he sleeps the majority of the time but gets bored so starts barking, he does also chew on his blankets from time to time. Hugo enjoys going out on family trips and is a good traveller. He’s looking for an experienced home with someone who can be around most of the time for company and enjoys long walks and hikes and can continue his training. If you feel you can offer this lovely lad a home please contact us. Hugo is currently in the Runcorn area and will be rehomed with his 5 week free Agria Insurance and his Adoption Contract. About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a large adult german shorthaired pointer dog waiting at GSP Rescue UK in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. GSP Rescue UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — GSP Rescue UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with GSP Rescue UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
