Hugo

Male

Recently, the approximately age-old runcīti were taken to the shelter by neighbors, when her 91-year-old single owner was taken to the hospital… Unfortunately, Hugo was "settled" in the shelter quarantine. By the time the majestic runcīti could be transferred to the main adoption cat room, one of the cats in the room fell ill. The illness spread to others, and, while all the cats in quarantine were not fully vaccinated, any relocation and adoption was impossible. It took three months. Although Hugo and another runcīti were the only two from the nine quarantined peļu junkuri (cat hairballs) that did not fall ill, communication with people during this time was minimal. Unfortunately, this has left some small impacts on the kitten's behavior. Hugo does not approach people, but with affection and cuddles, several now do, although previously it was a true mink kitten. However, knowing cat nature, we are sure – they will settle in at a home where the owner will play with the runcīti and gradually re-adapt to human affection. Otherwise, Hugo is a calm, intelligent, and active tiger kitten who lives well with other cats. And also – Hugo is extremely stinky, even when eating!

LV·Show original

About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a adult cat waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
