Hugo

Labrador Retriever · Male · Puppy

Support and Health How much training will I need? Needs ongoing support Can I be left alone? Yes In his previous home Hugo was able to be left for 3 hours and be settled. Hugo should be able to do this again after a settling in period. Do I have any medical conditions? Existing conditions Hugo currently has an ear infection that will require consideration before this pet is rehomed. Our rehoming team will be able to give you further information if you apply to rehome them and you are a successful match. We would also advise that any medical conditions, be that historic or ongoing, are discussed with your own vet prior to taking them home. Due to him still being on treatment, a vet call with one of our onsite vets will be required before the pet goes home. Who I can live with Can I live with dogs? Yes Can I live with cats? Yes, conditionally - Hugo has lived with cats previously. He would need to live with a bold dog savvy ca Can I live with small pets? No Additional information Hugo could potentially live with another dog of a similar size or smaller who is calm, confident, and friendly. Hugo would also benefit from regular walks with calm, well-mannered dogs to help him develop positive associations and learn that other dogs can be enjoyable company. Family and environment What kind of family am I looking for? Hugo could live with children aged 8 years and over. He has not previously lived with children but has been friendly when meeting them outside the home. Hugo can be a little nervous initially, so he would be best suited to children who can be calm and gentle around him while he builds his confidence. What type of environment would suit me? Hugo will need a home with his own secure, private garden. As an active dog, he enjoys having access to outdoor space, and he has previously had a garden in his former home. A private garden will provide him with an important outlet for his energy and help him settle comfortably into his new environment. About Hugo Hugo is a young, energetic dog with a big love for the great outdoors. Whether he’s exploring new trails, following exciting scents, or setting off on his next adventure, Hugo is happiest when he’s out and about discovering the world around him. When he’s not busy sniffing every interesting smell he can find, Hugo loves playtime. His absolute favourite toy is a tennis ball, and he’s always ready for a game of fetch or a fun play session with his humans. While Hugo has a gentle and slightly timid side, he is a sweet-natured boy who enjoys making friends at his own pace. He’s happy to meet new people and gets along well with calm, respectful dogs who understand his relaxed approach to socialising. With his adventurous spirit, playful personality, and affectionate nature, Hugo is a wonderful companion who brings joy wherever he goes.

About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a large puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at Woodgreen Pets Charity in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Woodgreen Pets Charity handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Woodgreen Pets Charity will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Woodgreen Pets Charity early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
