Hund Carlos

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

The male dog Carlos (born around 2016) from Romania came to the Tierlebenshof at the end of May. Carlos has epilepsy, which is well controlled with medication. He only has seizures rarely. In addition, he has consequences from a previous distemper infection - his left front paw turns out when walking. However, this does not impair Carlos in daily life. Carlos could not stay in the Romanian shelter because he was attacked and severely bitten by other dogs there. Carlos is very reserved towards people; at first, he was even really panicky. He would hide whenever someone approached him. Even looking in his direction stressed him, let alone eye contact. We gave Carlos the time he needed and were rewarded again. Yes, Carlos lives in his own world. He rarely seeks contact with other dogs. He has his favorite spot - equipped with many soft blankets and pillows - from which he watches the events on the farm. However, he is now more relaxed. You can walk past him, say "hello" to him, and even give him treats. He no longer runs away and also makes contact with visitors. When he is very brave, he even stands up and takes treats from the hand. He likes to follow Ruth around the farm and watch her work to see if maybe some treats fall for him. His favorite thing is cuddling his beloved teddy. "": " "" : "ImageGallery", "id" : " "url" : "

DE·Show original

Ja, Carlos lebt in seiner eigenen Welt. About Hund Carlos

What life with Hund Carlos looks like

Hund Carlos is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Carlos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Carlos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Carlos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Carlos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Carlos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Carlos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Carlos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
