Wallach Ravelle

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Baby · 3 months

The handsome fox-like horse Ravelle (born ca. 1989) lived at the Tierlebenshof since February 14, 2009. His story at the Tierlebenshof began in mid-January 2009. The animal welfare association Kreis Aachen e.V. received a call that a horse urgently needed a place, or else it would face transport to Italy for slaughter. Ravelle was underweight, had swollen fetlocks, countless small injuries, and a large abscessed wound on his lower jaw. These were silent witnesses to Ravelle’s past life. As an interim solution, Ravelle was given a place near Aachen. This was not a permanent solution, as the animal shelters of the Tierschutzverein Kreis Aachen did not have space for such a large horse. On February 14, 2009, Ravelle came to us. He was still very thin, and the wound on his jaw continued to abscess despite intensive care. Ravelle paid no attention to the other horses at first. The only thing that interested him after the more than two-hour journey was the hay that was prepared for him. He quickly got to know the other horses, and for Ravelle, it was clear: "Here I am at home!" Our veterinarian could not make progress with the wound, even after several bad teeth were extracted; the injury continued to abscess. Ravelle was referred to a specialist in equine dentistry. During a digital X-ray examination, the specialist discovered that the wound was from a previous jaw fracture. Ravelle underwent two operations, and finally, the wound healed. Ravelle endured all these trials with great patience. Just three months later, the emaciated heap of misery had transformed into a beautiful, strong horse. Eating was still very important to Ravelle. During his time on the farm, arthritis and his old—likely untreated—vertebral fracture in the lower back caused him trouble. Ravelle lived 6 years at the Tierlebenshof and was one of the animals that particularly won our hearts: a large horse with a character full of calm, friendliness, and fighting spirit. On the evening of March 15, 2015, he had to be put to sleep. He simply could not go on, and he passed away in Ruth’s arms.

About Wallach Ravelle

What life with Wallach Ravelle looks like

Wallach Ravelle is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed horse waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wallach Ravelle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wallach Ravelle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wallach Ravelle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wallach Ravelle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wallach Ravelle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wallach Ravelle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wallach Ravelle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
