Hund Edgar

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Edgar was born around 2008 (we estimate that he was older) in Romania. The last time he spent was in a shelter with only large dogs in a pen. Given the stress, fear, and hunger in such a shelter, one can imagine that it was only a matter of time before a small dog like Edgar (who weighs 6.5 kg) was attacked by the larger dogs. On April 14, 2018, Edgar came to us at the Animal Life Farm. Here too, he was the smallest dog in the pack, but this was neither a problem for him nor for the other dogs. He was immediately taken in and integrated well into the pack. Edgar was a lively little guy and extremely self-assured. He enjoyed moving freely in the house and on the farm. At night, he slept contentedly in his snuggle basket. Unfortunately, shortly after Edgar’s arrival, it was discovered that he was severely heart diseased. He was treated with medication and regularly examined. In October 2018, Edgar fell into a coma and had to be put to sleep. We can only speculate about the reasons: either his sick heart could no longer function, or it was a kind of stroke or age-related weakness. "Dear Eddi, you were such a lively and dear guy, we will miss you very much. I will never forget that the vet feared you would be overwhelmed by the larger dogs in the pack. NEVER, EDDI! The larger dogs kept their distance from you. You were a little guy with immense inner strength. You would never have let yourself be intimidated. Even we humans had to be careful when we had to lift you for a vet visit or something similar – you had sharp teeth. Because of your self-assured nature on one hand and your sensitivity on the other, we loved you. Eddi, come to the Rainbow Land well. We will see you again someday!"

About Hund Edgar

What life with Hund Edgar looks like

Hund Edgar is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Edgar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Edgar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Edgar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Edgar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Edgar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Edgar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Edgar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
