Hundedame Elli

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

With about 1 1/2 years old, the wonderful female dog Elli arrived at our area on July 28, 2020. The first two days and nights, Elli spent in an earth hole under a bush. She had insane fear of people. We let her be and expected nothing. From the start, it was clear that only dog Gustav had a chance to bring Elli out of her isolation. On day three, we had to bring Elli out of the earth hole due to the extreme heat. She spent another night in a side room before appearing in the kitchen with Rubina and Gustav on day four. Since then, Elli has made constant progress. She quickly gained Ruth's trust, but she still has a fear of men. Whenever visitors were at the Tierlebenshof, Elli no longer left the kitchen. Anyone who entered the kitchen was greeted with barking and growling. Elli simply had insane fear. We gave her time and showed her that she was safe. However, it initially led to conflicts with Mrs. Meda. Elli attacked Mrs. Meda, who lost a tooth in the process. Of course, this was not acceptable, and Ruth, the pack leader and dog whisperer, showed Elli that this behavior would not be tolerated. For a while, we were unsure if the Tierlebenshof was the right place for Elli. Of course, we wanted her to stay with us, but the well-being of the animals always comes first, and we wondered if Elli could feel comfortable at the Tierlebenshof. Our doubts turned out to be unfounded. Elli began running around the yard with Gustav, gaining more trust, and there were no major conflicts with Mrs. Meda. Elli still keeps her distance from visitors. However, she now approaches the visitors on the yard and looks curiously at their activities. Elli even takes treats from regular visitors' hands now. We are unbelievably proud of our wonderful Elli! Sponsorship: "" : " "" : "ImageGallery", "id" : " "url" : ""

DE·Show original

About Hundedame Elli

What life with Hundedame Elli looks like

Hundedame Elli is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hundedame Elli, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hundedame Elli?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hundedame Elli on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hundedame Elli if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hundedame Elli already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hundedame Elli isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hundedame Elli and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
