Hundedame Tripod

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 24 years

Tripod was the acknowledged pack leader of our dog pack by all! This might surprise some, given her three legs, which would make it difficult for her to physically assert herself against other dogs. But she didn’t need to. Tripod was a very large dog personality who was so sovereign and precise in her body language that her dog buddies readily acknowledged her role as pack leader. She also had a good handle on people. “Majesty” (as she was known on the farm) decided for herself who was lucky enough to be allowed to touch her. With these “chosen ones,” she was very cuddly. Tripod was born around February 2002 as a Turkish street dog. As a young female dog, she was hit by a car. The driver did not stop and left the severely injured female dog in the roadside ditch. When animal protectors found her, her left front leg could no longer be saved and had to be amputated. Tripod adapted wonderfully to this disability and was full of life. On March 27, 2011, Tripod was allowed to move into the Animal Life Farm. Sadly, we had to let Tripod cross the Rainbow Bridge on June 6, 2016. A tumor had formed in her left hind leg muscle. Painkillers no longer helped her in the last two days. We could only let her go with dignity. Tripod was put to sleep at home. Tripod loved to lie on a raised spot in the yard and survey her “kingdom” with her gaze. If she could still nibble on a dry piece of bread (her absolute favorite food) while doing so, her happiness was complete.

About Hundedame Tripod

What life with Hundedame Tripod looks like

Hundedame Tripod is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hundedame Tripod, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hundedame Tripod?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hundedame Tripod on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hundedame Tripod if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hundedame Tripod already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hundedame Tripod isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hundedame Tripod and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
