Adopt Hydra

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Hydra has a very good character – similar to Korfú, but more active, cheerful, trusting, and playful. She is extremely clingy towards people and loves to give affection without limits. She jumps high to hug, full of passion and joy about giving closeness. She loves to run and play with her fellow animals. She will never get angry and never fights with anyone – she just wants to have fun and play. Even if other dogs harass her, she does not seek conflict. She lives with male and female dogs and goes along problemlessly in the large group of dogs. Currently, we are practicing walking on a leash with her and her siblings – they are making great and fast progress. However, they still need to get used to car rides. The size and weight are updated. Hydra and her seven siblings were thrown over the fence of Melampo when they were only five weeks old. They were probably an unwanted litter from an unspayed mother dog. Of course, they were still far too young to be separated from their mother. As they were so small and young, they were particularly vulnerable and at risk of getting sick. Fortunately, they are growing up in safety in Melampo and are well cared for and nurtured. They have been vaccinated multiple times and are in the best health. As they grow up with their siblings and have a lot of contact with other dogs in Melampo, they are well socialized. The Melampo helpers lovingly take care of the puppies, so they can make positive experiences with people. We hope that all the puppies will soon find a suitable home where they can continue to grow up happily. It is a beautiful opportunity to accompany a puppy from the beginning and watch them grow up. The breed of the puppies is hard to determine as they are very different and not all the dogs in the litter look alike. We estimate that they will develop into large dogs. However, it is still a little early for a more accurate prognosis. We are crossing our fingers that the right people will notice these wonderful young dogs. So far, they only know the life in Melampo and are surely looking forward to exploring life outside the shelter. This, of course, requires patience and loving guidance and upbringing by the new owners. A puppy brings a lot of joy but also a lot of work with it, and potential owners should definitely be aware of this and think the step through carefully. After all, they should be allowed to stay in their family for their entire dog life.

About Hydra

What life with Hydra looks like

Hydra is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hydra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hydra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hydra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hydra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hydra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hydra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hydra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
