10.05.2016 - Do you remember our little doll? How was she when she arrived? How much suffering in her body and soul? Here is Ilaria today. You can't even imagine her sweetness, it's impossible to describe. She deserves the best in life and maybe soon there will be a nice surprise... Thank you all who supported her recovery, thank you to her distant mother, you are all special and these are the results. 15.03.2016 - Sweet wonderful Ilaria, she is improving but she is very shy and every time you meet her eyes she looks down. The post operation is going very well. Ilaria is a small female dog who deserves a lot and as always we wonder how someone could have abandoned her. No one has ever looked for her. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to those who will help us. Click on the photos to enlarge. 11.03.2016 - Our little Ilaria has been operated on, the internal fixation with plate procedure went well, the fracture was reduced optimally. Now she faces the post-operative period but she is a strong and wonderful small female dog. Think for a moment about how many emergencies we face daily, they are countless and we never turn our backs. If only certain people understood all these sacrifices, but sometimes we come up against ignorance that rules the situation. Thank you to those who will help us support the costs for Ilaria's treatment, as you know, we can only afford them through donations from special people. Thank you to those who will help us. Click on the photos to enlarge. 03.03.2016 - Our Ilaria is recovering each day. It is impossible to describe this small female dog, despite her fractures, despite the pain, she greets you, her tail never stops moving, her eyes are two precious gems. She is a lovely, unique small female dog. No one has looked for her and we wonder how it is possible not to look for your animal, a beautiful creature that would give its life for us. Our sweet Ilaria gives us the strength to go on each day. Thank you to those who will help us in our adventures. 02.03.2016 - Our little one is responding well to treatments, she is still serious but is improving and we are on the right track. For us every small improvement is a joy, a force to keep going. Help us care for the small Ilaria, thank you. 01.03.2016 - Our little one was transported to the clinic today for diagnostic tests. The tests showed a femur fracture. The small one must be stabilized and placed in a condition to undergo surgery. She is very weak and painful. She is a very sweet small female dog who loves cuddles despite everything. Thank you to those who will help the small Ilaria. 29.02.2016 - Our is not an animal shelter, our is now a First Aid with an associated animal shelter, a sad reality, repeated infinitely. Law 281 is so theoretically beautiful on paper, with so much darkness and shadows but if applied to something would serve, mostly it is ignored, at least in our area. In other parts of Sardinia there are agreements with veterinary clinics, maybe not all costs will be covered but most will. Here, nothing, no reimbursement, no daily allowance, nothing, and so we find ourselves facing every emergency living in the hope that some kind-hearted person will help us. Donations arrive, we restock the medicine warehouses, we pay the vets and clinics we rely on. Last year we spent euro 32.007,16 on medicines, and 80.690,72 on veterinary and surgical expenses!!!!!!! A really unsustainable situation. There is a solution, ask for the application of Law 281, we have been doing it all along but what do we have to do? Leave a wounded animal on the street to die? Wait for institutions to intervene? Ok, we intervene all the time but without a first aid, when calling the institutions, the injured animal always arrives at us, the only point of reference. This is our reality. This small female dog was hit tonight in Porto Rotondo, rescued by wonderful carabinieri who contacted us immediately, they transferred the small Ilaria to us, we named her like this in honor of today's saint. The small one, apparently around two years old, has many abrasions and certainly a fracture of the humerus and tibia. Tonight she was stabilized and given antibiotics and painkillers, tomorrow she will have radiographic exams. She has no chip. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to those who will support us, only with your help we will be able

Grazie a chi ci aiuterà. Grazie a chi ci aiuterà nelle nostre avventure.

About Ilaria

What life with Ilaria looks like

Ilaria is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ilaria, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ilaria?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ilaria on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ilaria if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ilaria already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ilaria isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ilaria and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
