European Shorthair · Female · Senior · 12 years

Identified by microchip Type: European Color: Black and white - Coat: Short spayed Tested FIV (AIDS) positive - FELV (Leukemia) negative Vaccinated for Typhus and cat flu Health: FIV positive (Cat AIDS is not transmissible to humans) In good health At the shelter Chalut les bipèdes! It's Iris speaking to you! You've seen many posts about my adoption, and it must be said there have been a lot! Imagine... I moved into the shelter in November 2017!! And since... Read more... Well nothing! No biped has taken the plunge with me. There were some offers once or twice, but nothing concrete or that could work. I spent some time in foster homes too, but I need so much freedom that I came back to the shelter where I have settled in the cabin and its garden. So yes, I am FIV positive, but in reality, it doesn't prevent me from living a real cat life and I'm doing very well. I can go out, run after the balls you throw at me (or other things that can roll like apples, pebbles, etc.), explore every corner of the garden and of course, with nice weather, sunbathe peacefully on top of the sheds. Sure, I'm not the kind of little cat that will lie down next to you on the couch or even on your knees when you're watching TV, but then... how can you be sure? Have you seen a couch and a TV at the shelter? Plus, I greet each biped who comes through the gate - when I don't have something else to do, like sleeping for example - and I even allow them to give me a gentle stroke as a greeting. I also check that the adoptions of my other animals of the same species go well by sitting on the contracts and observing the future adopters (however, you are allowed to look at me but not to touch me if I don't want to, no way!). And otherwise, yes, I'm 8 years old, but I'm as beautiful as a young cat and I still have many years ahead of me! All this to say that I would also like to be looked at. That a family of bipeds tries the adventure with me despite my character and my age. I am a nice independent little cat, a bit grumpy, but playful and full of life and I'm sure somewhere there are humans who are made for me! Find Iris on the shelter's Facebook page.

About Iris

What life with Iris looks like

Iris is a senior european shorthair cat waiting at Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus in France.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
