Ivan

Border Collie · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Ivan is looking for a home that have the time to dedicate to his training needs and where his new owners are around during the day, as he will have to start his house training and isn’t quite ready to be left alone yet. Children in the home can be of secondary age and over who are confident around dogs as Ivan does get excited and jumps up when greeting people. With time, Ivan will be a fun and rewarding addition to your family. Meet Ivan, a 5-month-old Collie X Shepherd who hasn’t had the best start to life and is looking for his forever family. He is a sweet boy who has a lot of love to give and just needs some guidance and time to settle into a home environment. Ivan is not familiar with walking on the lead, so he will slowly need to build up his confidence with this, so he is not currently going to cope walking alongside busy roads and will suit quiet areas to sniff around in when he is ready. Ivan will need a safe space to relax in, so a private secure garden will be ideal for him to find his feet and get to know his new adopters. Ivan will enjoy having doggy friends and would be beneficial for him to live with confident dog already established in the home, to show him the ropes! Ivan, being a mix of two high energy, intelligent breeds, is looking for an active home who is able to offer him sufficient mental and physical stimulation to keep his busy brain occupied!

About Ivan

What life with Ivan looks like

Ivan is a puppy/kitten border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ivan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
