Adopt Ivy

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Friendly, curious, playful, compatible, people-oriented. Ivy was only 6 months old when she was brought to the animal shelter with other dogs. We had a spaying campaign and Ivy was too young for it. The small female dog looked very weak and a blood test showed that she was positive for Ehrlichiosis, which was treated and she tested negative in May 2025. Her condition did not improve and her hind leg swelled up and we were very worried. Ivy was taken to the clinic after two more days because we could not ensure proper care. Her blood values were not good and the doctors at the clinic were also somewhat at a loss. The swelling in her leg did not get better and an X-ray showed an abnormality in the femur. Ivy was not stable enough for anesthesia, so we hoped for many more days that Ivy would stabilize. At the end of October, Ivy was operated on and a almost tennis ball-sized encapsulated pus ball was found on her bone, which was removed. From that day on, things finally started to improve and the swelling in her leg slowly went down. Ivy returned to the animal shelter after two more weeks and continued to recover. She has been through a lot in her young life and therefore missed out on much in her development. It is all the more beautiful to see Ivy today. She has become a lively, playful female dog full of joy for life. She is compatible with other dogs, but sets boundaries for overly pushy dogs. She walks well on a leash, but is still very insecure in new situations. Traffic and cars are scary for her. She is open and friendly towards people. Ivy is attentive and trainable. Ivy is looking for a rural home, which is experienced with dogs and can help this loving female dog adjust to her new life. All are vaccinated, microchipped and have an EU certificate. They are checked for Mediterranean diseases according to their age. See information on our homepage. Every adopted dog makes room for a new dog from the street, who has to live in hunger and emaciation.

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Ivy

What life with Ivy looks like

Ivy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ivy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
