Ivy AVAILABLE

Mixed Breed Β· Female Β· Young Β· 1 year

Ivy is a beautiful one-year-old crossbreed who recently came to Islay Dog Rescue after unforeseen changes in her family's circumstances. Having previously lived in a loving home, she is now looking for a forever family of her own. Ivy is a gentle, affectionate and energetic young dog who absolutely adores attention. Like many dogs her age, she is full of enthusiasm for life and enjoys being involved in everything her people are doing. She is also incredibly cuddly and thrives on companionship. A bright and intelligent girl, Ivy already knows several commands including sit, paw, other paw, spin and lie down. She is highly motivated by treats, making her eager to learn and a great candidate for continued training. In her previous home, Ivy displayed resource-guarding behaviours towards the resident dog, particularly around food, toys and people. Interestingly, this behaviour was not seen when she stayed with family members who had dogs, nor whilst attending doggy day care. This suggests that the behaviour may be linked to her home environment and the resources she values most. To give Ivy the very best chance of success, we feel she would be happiest as the only dog in the home. Ivy previously lived with young children and was always gentle with them. However, due to her excitable nature, tendency to jump up and history of resource guarding, we believe she would be best suited to a home with no children or dog-savvy children aged eight years and over who can understand and respect her boundaries while helping with her ongoing training. At the rescue, Ivy has met the resident cat and showed very little interest. She did not attempt to chase and was simply curious when the cat moved away. For this reason, we feel she could potentially live alongside a confident, dog-savvy cat, provided introductions are carried out carefully and appropriate boundaries are maintained.

About Ivy AVAILABLE

What life with Ivy AVAILABLE looks like

Ivy AVAILABLE is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Islay Dog Rescue in Cumnock (Ayrshire).

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivy AVAILABLE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivy AVAILABLE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Islay Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivy AVAILABLE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivy AVAILABLE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Islay Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ivy AVAILABLE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivy AVAILABLE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Islay Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivy AVAILABLE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
