Ivy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Ivy is an absolutely gorgeous girl with a heart full of love, and so much affection waiting to be shared. Rescued from a kill shelter, this special girl is now looking for the forever home she deserves – somewhere she can feel safe, build her confidence, and show the world just how wonderful she truly is. Ivy is brilliant with both people and other dogs, and her transformation from a timid, anxious girl into a playful little character has been beautiful to watch. Once she feels comfortable and understands that she can trust you, her true personality begins to shine. She forms incredibly strong bonds with her humans and, before long, you’ll have your very own little shadow following you around, wanting to be wherever you are. She has the cutest little bounces to invite you to play, absolutely loves attention, and we have no doubt that sofa cuddles will quickly become one of her favourite pastimes. Although Ivy is generally wonderful with people, we suspect that, due to a lack of exposure to different experiences, she can be a little hesitant around men initially. The good news is that she is doing brilliantly with the male staff and volunteers at Just for Dogs, and this progress gives us plenty of reason to be hopeful. She will need a home that understands confidence takes time, where she can build relationships at her own pace without pressure. With patience, kindness, and gentle encouragement, we believe she will soon begin to feel more comfortable and let that lovely personality shine through. Ivy is also a fantastic girl out on her walks and is brilliant on the lead, making her a lovely companion for someone who enjoys getting outside and exploring together. She doesn’t need someone to rush her or expect her to be confident overnight; she simply needs someone who will stand by her, support her through unfamiliar situations, and show her that the world can be a safe and happy place. In return, you’ll gain an incredibly loyal companion who will love being by your side.

About Ivy

What life with Ivy looks like

Ivy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Just for Dogs (East Midlands) in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Just for Dogs (East Midlands) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Just for Dogs (East Midlands) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ivy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Just for Dogs (East Midlands) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
