Ivy

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

This is Ivy: her shining eyes, her reserved gaze, and the hope that somewhere out there in the vast world, someone will recognize at first sight what a wonderful little girl Ivy is. For the photoshoot, she behaves very obediently, a bit uncertain about what is expected of her... She has surely been taken from the cold kennel of her large animal shelter, where she has had to live since puppyhood, and brought to an unfamiliar photo studio. This says a lot about this sweet female dog: Ivy knows little of life outside the kennel, yet she very lovingly adapts to the new situation. She is absolutely friendly, shy, and initially reacts with a surprised and reserved demeanor when petted and stroked. She is not used to being petted so often, but she will quickly learn how good it feels. For Ivy to thrive, she needs a loving person and a real home. She needs a soft dog bed, a full food bowl, and those wonderful cuddles. Ivy has spent her entire young life at the animal shelter. Now we hope that for the pretty Ivy with her brown-black fur, cute black ears, white spot on her chest, and lovely, shiny eyes, a dream will come true: living with people who know what a female dog like Ivy needs. With time, a bit of patience, lots of love, and no pressure, Ivy will adapt to a new life. How beautiful it would be to take walks in nature! To be allowed to sniff in the grass! To run! She is already used to a leash, but she will need training. With patience and fun (treats?), she will surely learn lovingly and become a very obedient companion. Since Ivy is a small diamond in the rough, a person or persons with a quiet home who have the joy and time to support Ivy and show her "the world" through beautiful walks and outings would be suitable. A family with older, understanding, patient children would also be suitable. A small, fenced garden where she can sniff around and move freely would be perfect. A friendly only dog in her new environment would ease her transition, but it is not essential. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V.

DE·Show original

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Ivy

What life with Ivy looks like

Ivy is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ivy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
