Jabba

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Senior · 12 years

The cute tomcat Jabba originally came to the animal shelter together with his feline friend Joan due to a death in the family. Temporarily, he was allowed to move into a new home (as a house cat), but unfortunately was returned due to unsanitary conditions. Therefore, we have now decided to rehome him with a rural outdoor access. At our animal shelter, he showed no marking behavior for a long time. However, we do observe it occasionally now, and we assume that boredom and the less social tomcat in the neighboring cage might be the triggers. Jabba is initially more reserved and cautious when it comes to new situations and people. Once he has gained their trust, he shows his gentle and very cuddly side and really enjoys the closeness to his people. Currently, Jabba lives together with Joan. The two can ideally move into a new home together, but can also be rehomed separately. This animal was surrendered to the shelter. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

DE·Show original

About Jabba

What life with Jabba looks like

Jabba is a senior mixed breed cat cat waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jabba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jabba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jabba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jabba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jabba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jabba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jabba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
