Jack &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Jack has been waiting for almost 6 years for someone to see what a great dog he is. When he was just a few weeks old, animal welfare workers found him tied to a streetlamp. He lived in a large, noisy kennel for a year before moving to our friends in Malaga. Now he has been in the care of APA La Sonrisa Peluda for 5 years, and it's high time that this friendly 6-year-old (as of 04/2022) finally finds out what it's like to have his own family. Jack is a sporting gentleman in the best of ages. Jack gets along rather poorly with other male dogs, but he accepts them, especially if they stand up to him, and his current flatmate Magia, like almost all girls, he finds absolutely great. Jack is a super athlete, and when volunteers in Malaga have enough time to spend with him, run with him, play with him, then the brilliant Podenco mix shows his clever mind and impressive willingness to learn. Unfortunately, in the daily life of the shelter, there is often too much going on to spend two hours working with one dog or simply taking a long walk. Jack needs an active family that likes to be outdoors often and would like to teach this smart heartbreaker a few more tricks. Jack likes to shine and wants to please - he just needs the people who will allow him to finally show what is inside him. Jack was positively tested for leishmaniasis several years ago, but he shows no symptoms and is not treated accordingly at the moment. However, this Mediterranean disease can lie dormant for a long time before showing itself, and an interested family should at least clarify where there is a veterinarian who is familiar with this illness and knows what to do in an emergency. We will gladly advise you if you have fallen in love with one of our LM dogs. Jack has looked at the world through bars long enough. It would be great if he could finally experience how beautiful it is to run over green meadows and stubble fields, to shine on the agility course, and to play in the garden with the children. Can you secure a nice future for our Jack? We would be happy to hear from you!. This is a puppy.

DE·Show original

About Jack &#8211

What life with Jack &#8211 looks like

Jack &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jack &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
