Adopt Jackson

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Jackson is a reserved dog who needs time and patience to build trust. At first, he appears suspicious and fearful, especially around strangers. While he integrates well with the other dogs and runs with them, he keeps a distance from visitors and prefers to stay at a safe distance. However, within his enclosure, a different side of him emerges: when you sit with him and gently stroke him, he relaxes after a short time and enjoys the affection. It seems as though he needs a little "cuddling" pushed upon him to realize how much he actually enjoys it. Jackson was found as a puppy on the street in 2019 with his siblings and brought to the animal shelter. While his siblings found homes quickly, he remained the last and grew up in the shelter. This experience likely intensified his mistrust of people. His fear of people has changed little over the years, and he generally behaves rather reservedly. While the other dogs rush out of their enclosures full of energy in the morning, Jackson prefers to stay back. He only joins them at midday when the calm sets in and the dogs are lying relaxed in the sun. Since early 2024, however, he has made visible progress: Elena, a volunteer helper, takes him for walks every Thursday. Step by step, he is gaining trust and security. For Jackson, we are searching for a sensitive home with people who are willing to give him the time he needs. With patience, calmness, and understanding, he will learn that he does not need to be afraid. Once he has gained trust, he will be a faithful companion for life. Shoulder height: Still not precisely measurable due to his shyness. He is, however, a large, slender dog. Weight: approx. 26 kg.

About Jackson

What life with Jackson looks like

Jackson is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jackson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jackson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jackson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jackson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jackson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jackson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jackson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
