Jagger

Unknown · Adult · 4 years

This is Jagger, an Agapornis roseicollis—gender unknown. Jagger was sitting right in the middle of a bike path; fortunately, he was spotted by a jogger, who called animal rescue to pick him up. Now Jagger is at the animal shelter, and unfortunately, his owner has not come forward. So it’s time to find Jagger a new home. Jagger is a cheerful, lively little bird who loves to use his voice. However, he’s missing a partner, so this lovebird is not only looking for a new owner but also for a nice feathered companion. We don’t know how old Jagger is, but he’s definitely not an old bird yet. Who can offer this delightful Agapornis a suitable home?

NL·Show original

About Jagger

What life with Jagger looks like

Jagger is a adult bird waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jagger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jagger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jagger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jagger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jagger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jagger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jagger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
