James is a nine-year-old, calm boy who was brought to the shelter on July 10, 2026, after being found by the colleagues of Het Blauwe Kruis. He was diagnosed with diabetes and required further tests and monitoring. Upon arrival, he was weak and underweight. We started medication for his diabetes, choosing the new product Senvelgo instead of insulin. James has been improving every day. Today (July 23), a blood test showed that the medication is working well, although his glucose level is still slightly high. A follow-up blood test will be done in two weeks to monitor his condition. James is currently a resident of the shelter. He may be adopted later, but we want to ensure his diabetes is well controlled first. Ondertussen is James aangesterkt en is zijn diabetes onder controle met medicatie Senvelgo i.p.v. insuline. Hij wordt nu ook nog ondersteund met chinese kruiden. Nu hij aangeeft dat hij veel meer aandacht vraagt dan wat wij hem kunnen geven, willen we voor hem graag een eigen thuis zoeken waar hij in alle rust kan genieten van de aandacht van eigen personeel. Het is uiteraard noodzakelijk dat hij zijn medicatie consequent blijft krijgen. We zullen hierover duidelijke uitleg geven en ook nadien staan we nog ter beschikking met raad en advies. James is een rustige jongen van ongeveer negen jaar die hier leeft in de grote groep. Hij kan dus goed overweg met soortgenoten en met honden, maar hij zou ook alleen kunnen. Bij ons heeft hij geen behoefte om naar buiten te gaan, dus hij kan perfect als binnenpoes. Denk je dat jij die persoon kan zijn die hem kan bieden wat hij nodig heeft? James bleek diabetespatiënt te zijn en had dringend verdergaande onderzoeken en opvolging nodig. Bij aankomst was hij vrij slap en mager. Voorzichtig hebben we medicatie opgestart voor de diabetes en we kozen dit keer ervoor om het vrij nieuwe product Senvelgo te geven in plaats van de gebruikelijke insuline. We zagen James elke dag een beetje beter worden. Vandaag (23 juli) werd bloed genomen en daaruit blijkt dat de medicatie goed aanslaat. Zijn glucosepeil is nog wel iets te hoog maar het is al veel beter dan voordien. Binnen een tweetal weken zal opnieuw een bloedcontrole plaatsvinden zodat we zijn toestand optimaal kunnen opvolgen. James is voorlopig een vaste bewoner. Mogelijk zal hij later nog een eigen thuis kunnen krijgen, maar we willen graag eerst zijn diabetes goed onder controle hebben.
