Adopt Janina

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Friendly, confident, patient Janina was neutered in October as part of the spaying campaign at our animal shelter. She was originally supposed to go back where she came from. But there she was not only on a chain and no one was interested in her. The carabiner was so big that it would have been too big even for a Mastiff. It should also not be allowed for a dog to live on a chain in Greece. The helpers quickly took Janina into their hearts and asked to find a home for her. Well, and with such a delicate, charming female dog, we of course could not say no. We don't know much about Janina's past. She already walks well on a leash and is compatible with other dogs. However, she does not let anyone take the butter off her bread and can stand up for herself. She has a great, nice temperament and a beautiful, light brown striped coat. The time in the cage during the spaying campaign was spent without complaints and grumbling, and she always patiently waited for her short walks. After that, she was super friendly again returned to her cage. Overall, she is a very kind, sociable female dog who does not want to live on the street. She is still a bit insecure outside. Who knows what she has experienced, or maybe she has simply not experienced much like so many dogs, so that many things scare her. So she still has a lot to learn. Janina is not a scared dog. She is just cautious and is looking forward to exploring the world together with her new family. Who wants to give Janina a home where she can finally arrive? All are vaccinated, microchipped and have an EU passport. They are checked for Mediterranean diseases according to their age. See information on our homepage. Every dog placed makes room for one of those dogs who have to endure their existence hungry and emaciated.

AUFENTHALTSORT

About Janina

What life with Janina looks like

Janina is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. in Greece.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Janina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Janina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Janina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Janina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Janina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Janina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with A.C.E. Animal Compassion Europe - Tiere in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Janina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
