Janosch &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

My name is Janosh. I am male, neutered, and born around 2016. I have been waiting since January 2018 for a new home. My caretakers say: Janosh was part of an intake by the veterinary office. About 30 cats were secured in a two-room apartment and distributed to surrounding animal welfare organizations. All were more or less anxious, but not shy and easily handled. They are exceptionally good with fellow animals, so we would like to place Janosh as a second pet. In the meantime, Janosh enjoys cuddles when he doesn't immediately notice a hand approaching him. He enjoys this so much that we are convinced he will quickly become a snuggly cat with individual care, once he has settled in. Otherwise, Janosh is very easy to care for and unpretentious, only the necessary finesse and patience in the initial phase are prerequisites for a relaxed cohabitation with Janosh. Whether purely suitable for apartment living or a home where later outdoor access would be possible, Janosh is open to everything. Who would like to stand by Janosh on his way to becoming a snuggly cat?. Gets along with other dogs.

About Janosch &#8211

What life with Janosch &#8211 looks like

Janosch &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Janosch &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Janosch &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Janosch &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Janosch &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Janosch &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Janosch &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Janosch &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
