Janosch

Weimaraner · Male · Adult · 5 years

Janosch – Strong-Willed Weimaraner Seeks People with Heart & Leadership Janosch is a 2020-born male Weimaraner with an impressive presence. He is a dog that keenly observes his surroundings, communicates clearly, and brings a lot of inner strength. For over a year, he has been living with us at the animal shelter and has been intensively guided by experienced trainers. His learning behavior is excellent – he works with concentration, understands quickly, and shows a high willingness to work with his human. Why he came to us In his previous home, cohabitation with children could no longer be safely managed. Despite training, Janosch showed limited controllability in certain situations. To protect him in a more suitable environment, it was decided to open new paths for him. His nature – typical Weimaraner Janosch embodies what many Weimaraners are known for: ✓ High alertness ✓ A strong sense of protection and boundary awareness ✓ Clear bonding with "his" person He has – true to his breed – a potential for assertiveness. This does not mean aggression at all costs, but rather that, closely bonded with his primary caregiver, he wants to take responsibility and will do so if necessary. This is the crucial point: He needs people who can reliably take responsibility – otherwise, he will do it. What we are working on Janosch tends to show controlling behavior during dog encounters or unwanted visitors. If he feels restricted, he may redirect his frustration. His tolerance for frustration still needs improvement: when things don't go according to his plan, he can become more direct. His status behavior is also strongly pronounced. Certain areas, resources, or positions can be very important to him. Therefore, Janosch needs clear rules and people who can make decisions with confidence – without harshness, but with clarity and calm. This animal must be handled with a muzzle.

About Janosch

What life with Janosch looks like

Janosch is a adult weimaraner dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Janosch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Janosch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Janosch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Janosch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Janosch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Janosch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Janosch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
