Adopt Jariro

Podenco · Male · Adult · 4 years

Origin / Location: Ubeda (Andalusia) Character: According to the Spanish caretakers, now open, enjoys the company of dogs, knows the leash and loves walks, still shy and cautious with strangers New home: no expectations, quiet environment with a dog-proof garden, second dog or small pack, not for first-time dog owners, active people who enjoy being outdoors Adoption fee: 450 euros including transport Jariro – A brave fighter looking for love and security Jariro is a young Podenco, born in December 2022, who experienced unimaginable suffering in his previous life. He lived alone on the countryside for a long time, hungry, frightened, and full of pain. Yet despite all his fears and the difficult times he went through, he showed incredible strength: he begged a kind family for food so as not to give up. These people helped him, took him to the animal clinic, where he received the necessary care, love, and hope to regain his strength. Now Jariro has recovered, moved to the animal shelter, and is revealing more and more his true nature: a curious, cheerful dog who wants to rediscover the world. Initially, he was very shy, but through loving affection and patience from his caretakers at the animal shelter, he has made great progress. He seeks the company of people he knows, asks for cuddles, and enjoys the small moments of trust that mean so much to him. However, he is still very cautious and keeps his distance with strangers. He allows himself to be petted, but you can tell that the situation makes him uncomfortable and he would rather go away. He simply needs time to build trust. When he goes on an adventure with his dog friends, however, he really comes to life. He is full of joy, absorbs everything around him like a sponge, and shows how much he loves nature and life. In the company of other dogs, he feels safe and secure, which is why he would like a confident canine companion by his side. Jariro needs people who have experience with Podencos and are willing to give him the time and love he so desperately needs. He is not a city or apartment dog - he needs a quiet, rural environment with a secure, fenced garden where he can explore the world without worries. Responsible, empathetic people who already have experience and are ready to take on a special challenge are needed here. Jariro is already neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed several times, and has a Mediterranean test. He is ready to leave his birthplace as soon as possible and start a new life full of hope, love, and security. Please help us find the right home for Jariro. We wish for him a family that will love him forever and show him that he never has to be alone again. Feel free to tell us about yourself and your living conditions - so we can ensure together that Jariro finds a new home that is perfect for him. About Jariro

What life with Jariro looks like

Jariro is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) in Vilseck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jariro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jariro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jariro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jariro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jariro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jariro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franz von Assisi Hundenothilfe e.V. (Hunde ohne Lobby) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jariro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
