Jasper

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel · Male · Young · 2 years

📍 Location: North Lincolnshire Jasper is a 2-year-old Black and Tan Cavalier who approaches life with enthusiasm. He is affectionate, friendly, and loves being involved in whatever is happening around him. If you’re looking for a quiet dog who is happy to spend most of the day snoozing, Jasper probably isn’t the dog for you. If you’re looking for a fun, engaging companion to share adventures with, keep reading. Jasper is an active young dog who enjoys exploring, playing, and being part of family life. He travels brilliantly in the car and has been a pleasure to take out and about. He particularly enjoys opportunities to run and play in secure areas and would thrive with owners who enjoy getting out and doing things with their dog. He gets on well with other dogs and enjoys canine company, but he does not need another dog in the home and could happily live as an only dog provided he receives plenty of companionship and interaction from his people. Jasper can be boisterous and occasionally unaware of his own speed and enthusiasm. He can charge around the house and garden with great excitement and would be best suited to an active household with older children aged 14 and above. He would not be suitable for very young children or anyone unsteady on their feet. Like many intelligent young dogs, Jasper has a few quirks. He has some mild resource guarding tendencies around items he finds particularly valuable, such as sticks or treasures collected from the garden. His foster home has found this very manageable, and adopters should simply be prepared to continue sensible management and positive reinforcement training. He can also be sensitive about certain aspects of handling, particularly grooming and personal care. He does not enjoy being brushed or having his eyes cleaned and will often use his mouth to communicate his feelings. Given his diagnosis of Chiari-like malformation, some discomfort may contribute to these sensitivities. Muzzle training has already been started, and his adopters will need to continue handling him calmly and appropriately. Jasper is a bright, enthusiastic young dog who would love a home that embraces training and ongoing learning. We think he would really enjoy attending training classes and continuing to build his confidence and skills through positive reinforcement. For the right family, Jasper has an enormous amount to offer. He is fun, affectionate, full of personality, and ready to make the most of life. ✅ Health conditions: Jasper recently underwent a highly successful balloon valvuloplasty to treat severe pulmonic stenosis. His post-operative scan showed an excellent result, with his condition improving from severe to mild. He will require a follow-up appointment with his cardiologist in Wakefield approximately two months after adoption, which Bliss Cavalier Rescue will fund. Long term, Jasper is expected to require periodic cardiac monitoring, with echocardiograms likely every 12–18 months. Bliss Cavalier Rescue will continue to fund these agreed follow-up cardiac reviews and echocardiograms with Jasper’s current cardiologist only. Should adopters choose to transfer his cardiac care to another cardiology specialist elsewhere, future consultations, scans, and associated costs will become their responsibility. The scan in 2 months must be carried out with his current cardiologist and is a condition of adoption. Any routine veterinary care, medications, investigations, treatment, or referrals outside of these agreed cardiac reviews will remain the adopter’s responsibility. Jasper also has a prolapsed mitral valve with early mitral valve disease, which does not currently require treatment, and Chiari-like malformation, which is well controlled on medication. He also has mild allergies that are currently managed successfully with a hydrolysed diet and regular bathing during the spring and summer months. Due to his cardiac condition, Jasper has been chemically castrated rather than surgically neutered. 💊 On medication? Yes – Gabapentin for Chiari malformation. 🐾 Behaviour traits: Affectionate, friendly, energetic, boisterous, playful, bright, sensitive with handling 🎾 Activity level: High – Jasper needs an active home with appropriate daily exercise and enrichment 📚 Training required: Ongoing positive reinforcement training, recall work, sensible resource guarding management, and continued muzzle training for grooming and personal care. 🏡 Type of home required: Active, confident home with adopters who enjoy training, enrichment, and exercise. Jasper can live with friendly dogs or as an only dog, but he cannot live with cats. A secure garden is essential, and adopters must be physically able to manage an enthusiastic young dog. 📌 Important Notes ✔️ Jasper needs an active home and is not suited to a quiet, sedentary lifestyle. ✔️ Children must be aged 14+ due to his enthusiasm and boisterous nature. ✔️ Adopters must be willing to continue positive training, muzzle training, and sensible management around handling and resource guarding. ✔️ His Chiari-like malformation medication must continue long term. ✔️ Adopters must attend his cardiology follow-ups in Wakefield, funded by Bliss Cavalier Rescue. ✔️ Home check and meet & greet required within 7–10 days of applying. ✔️ Please read our adoption procedure before applying:

About Jasper

What life with Jasper looks like

Jasper is a young adult cavalier king charles spaniel dog waiting at Bliss Cavalier Rescue in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jasper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jasper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bliss Cavalier Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jasper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jasper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bliss Cavalier Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jasper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jasper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bliss Cavalier Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jasper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
