Adopt Jay

Mixed Breed · Male

I appeared outside a vet clinic one summer day, alone and in a lot of pain. Days passed, and no one came to help me. When I was finally rescued, my little body was in terrible condition. I had a badly infected wound where my tail should have been, broken and rotten teeth, a respiratory infection, and painful skin problems. I was exhausted and struggling just to exist. The hardest part of my journey is something I’ll carry with me for life. Because of the way my tail amputation was done, I’m partially incontinent. I can urinate a little, but I can’t control my bladder on my own. The vets did every test possible, including X-rays, an MRI, and a neurological exam, but nothing can undo the damage that was done. Without help, my bladder would eventually become dangerously full — something that would have taken my life if I’d remained on the streets. Today, I live safely in a cattery with an experienced carer who expresses my bladder several times a day. Because of this care, I’ve gained weight, my skin has healed, and I finally feel comfortable in my own body again. I’m a deeply affectionate boy who loves human attention, enjoys the company of other cats, and greets the world with little chirps that sound just like a bird. I’m looking for a special home — one with someone experienced, patient, and kind, who can continue the simple routine that keeps me healthy and happy. With the right care, I can live a full, joyful life, and I have so much love waiting to give in return. About Jay

What life with Jay looks like

Jay is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Help A Stray Cat in Turkey.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇹🇷Adopting from Turkey

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help A Stray Cat handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help A Stray Cat will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help A Stray Cat early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
