Jelena – A fluffy seal on four paws: The gentle Jelena is searching for her big happiness! .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-207 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container .fusion-imageframe.imageframe-24 img{aspect-ratio:9 / 16;object-position:20% 38%;} .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-208 > Location: Animal shelter in Slavonski Brod, Croatia Date of birth: Approximately 4 years old (as of 07/2026) Shoulder height: currently about 42 cm / about 14 kg Compatibility with cats unknown Single or second dog Ideal environment: all types of households Suitable for: Ambitious first-time dog owners .fusion-body .fusion-button Directly to self-information .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-209 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container .fusion-gallery-24 Loading the next set of gallery items... loading more images... .fusion-body .fusion-builder-column-210 > .fusion-body .fusion-flex-container Sometimes, the path to a new life begins with a real wink of fate: In February 2026, the sweet Jelena ran right into the middle of the street, directly in front of one of our animal protectors’ car. It was almost as if she knew exactly who could help her at that very moment! Luckily, the driver managed to brake in time, and instead of an accident, this encounter became Jelena’s very personal road to rescue. Since then, the pretty terrier-mix lady has been waiting in our care for her own people. With her shoulder height of around 42 cm and a weight of 14 kg, she has the absolutely perfect compact size—and visually, with her fluffy, dark coat and that irresistible little face, she’s simply a sugar-sweet, lively “country seal” that’s impossible not to fall in love with! Jelena is probably around 4 years old and an absolute soul of a dog: incredibly gentle, calm, and lovable. In new situations or around strangers, she can sometimes be a bit shy and reserved at first. But the ice quickly melts! As soon as she realizes that people mean well by her and she feels safe, she completely warms up and transforms into an absolute cuddle queen who can’t get enough petting. Even in everyday life, this charming lady shows her best side. She handles car rides with complete composure and relaxation. On the leash, she can still be a tiny bit nervous at first, but once you’ve walked a few steps, that quickly subsides and she walks beautifully alongside you. Jelena gets along wonderfully with other dogs and again demonstrates her wonderfully easygoing, balanced character. We don’t yet know whether she likes cats, but given her extremely friendly and patient nature, she’s also fantastic for first-time dog owners. Currently, Jelena is still staying in an outdoor kennel, but she longs so much for a warm basket, soft carpets, and lots of love. For our fluffy dream dog, we’re looking for a loving home that will give her the necessary time and peace to settle in at the beginning. We promise: Whoever gives Jelena their heart will gain a loyal, unbelievably grateful companion for life. Would you like to give our sweet “seal” the forever home she deserves and walk through life together with her? .fusion-body .fusion-button Interested in adopting her? About Jelena

What life with Jelena looks like

Jelena is a small adult dog waiting at Nordic Strays e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jelena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jelena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Nordic Strays e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jelena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jelena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Nordic Strays e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jelena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jelena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Nordic Strays e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jelena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
