JERRY

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Estimated birth date: May 2022 Brief info: lively, active, people-oriented, cuddly, playful, needs experienced hands & training, male dogs+, female dogs+ JERRY is waiting for his foster home in Appenzell, 9050, Switzerland. Description of JERRY from August 5, 2023: Perhaps everything would be different if I had been named Felix (the lucky one). Instead, I am JERRY and I make my name-sibling JERRY Lee Lewis proud with my energy and power. I was adopted by a Swiss family in April 2023, but it turns out that I am currently in the worst teenage phase, as depicted in the picture book. At home, I am the absolute dream dog, know how to behave, master basic commands, and love hours of cuddling and playing. Of course, I can also stay alone at home while people go shopping. In my car box, I naturally drive bravely too. But outside, the world looks very different, and I want to go everywhere, no matter if two- or four-legged beings meet us, and also other moving things I loudly bark at and throw myself into the leash. You will have to bring patience and calmness so that we can step by step become a dream team. It is said that impulse control is the magic word for me. If you can do something with that, then sign up immediately via self-disclosure form, but please only if you live in a list-free canton, one of my last ancestors (great-grandparents?) was probably a Staffie or something similar. Let me pretend that life is a pony farm, then my wish list would include a home: – with dog-experienced people – with patient two-legged beings who can endure a lot – a house with an enclosed garden would be awesome – with people who have a lot of time for me You are welcome to be sporty, but I still need to build up muscles and condition, and leisurely hiking is already super cool! Background information from Hungary: The estimated May 2022-born JERRY was found on the street by a man in July 2022, who took him home with him. The young man intended to find a good home for the sweet puppy. When he was unable to do so for a while, he brought him to the animal shelter. So JERRY now waits for his big chance to find an enterprising family, because he is already in the starting blocks for an appropriate and "colorful" life. Despite his bad start in life, JERRY is absolutely people-oriented and friendly. He is a little whirlwind and wild child. He exudes so much joy and good mood that one immediately falls in love with him. However, he will need good and consistent training, as well as sufficient mental stimulation and physical exertion to channel his energy into orderly paths. The cute puppy is also a big and stormy snuggler. The active puppy also gets along well with his fellow animals and was initially housed with three other puppies in a run. These, however, have already traveled to their new families. So JERRY now shares the run with the approximately equally aged Scotty. For the charming JERRY, we are looking for active people with dog-experience who are willing to embark on the "puppy/Junghund" adventure – with everything that goes with it: playing, snuggling, toiling, but of course also a consistent and loving education. Due to his suspected mixed breed, JERRY unfortunately cannot be rehomed to Germany but only to certain cantons in Switzerland (or to other countries without restrictions, like Hungary). JERRY will be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport in his new home. Have you fallen in love with the cute puppy? Then we look forward to your message!. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About JERRY

What life with JERRY looks like

JERRY is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting JERRY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about JERRY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw JERRY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt JERRY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is JERRY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if JERRY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know JERRY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
