Get to know JEWEL right in the video! [LINK TO THE VIDEO ON THIS PAGE – SET ANCHOR] Young female Jewel is looking for the most precious thing of all: her own family Young female Jewel was rescued from the streets of Romania and taken in by the shelter. Our team found her during a neutering campaign and brought her to safety. For more information on how the dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions, see our animal welfare FAQ. Jewel is still very new to the shelter. She is gaining new experiences every day. Her character will continue to develop over the coming weeks and months – for now, only the first signs of her personality can be seen. If you would like more information about this little furry friend, feel free to write to our adoption team. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furry friend – a place where she can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: once housetraining is achieved, the "wild adolescence" often begins – full of energy, insecurities, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that human and dog take together – with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. We wish for this furry friend people with patience, empathy, and perseverance – and with an understanding that shelter dogs often come with some history. How exactly she will respond to her new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: those who adopt rather than buy not only give an animal a second chance, but actively choose against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the . All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our adoption team.

About Jewel

What life with Jewel looks like

Jewel is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jewel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jewel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jewel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jewel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Jewel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jewel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jewel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
