Joe

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Joe Staff Mix, born 06.03.2022, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered 🐾 Joe is looking for his people - because suddenly everything is different. Sometimes life changes from one day to the next. For our Staff-Mix Joe, exactly that has happened: His beloved owner has passed away. For Joe, this means not just one person has gone - his most important person is missing him infinitely. 💔 In the current situation, three dogs are not manageable, and therefore we are looking for a new home for Joe with a heavy heart. A home where this wonderful guy can arrive again and find his place for life. And about Joe we can actually say only one thing: He is just a really great dog. ❤️ Joe is friendly to people, open-minded and absolutely lovable. Of course, he can also be a bit stormy - but a bit of joie de vivre is allowed, after all. 😉 He is on a leash, can stay alone without problems and loves to drive in the car completely relaxed. Joe also shows a special quality in dealing with other dogs. In dog school, he is happy to be used as a social dog and is deliberately taken with him on walks as a peace maker. He radiates a sovereignty that can give other dogs security. Joe, however, has a special feature: He is deaf or can only hear certain sounds. His hearing loss is not congenital, but has developed over time due to a disease in the inner ear. Joe has therefore also been treated by a veterinarian. But Joe has long learned that communication does not only work through the ears. Hand signals were trained with him, which he knows and understands. In addition, he has already begun to get used to communicating via a vibration collar. Of course, we therefore want people who are willing to continue this form of communication with Joe and give him the necessary security. Since Joe has no experience with small children and because of his limited hearing ability, he does not always notice when someone approaches him, we are looking for a home without small children. Older, understanding children from about 10-12 years can we imagine well. Cats do not belong to Joe's desired WG and we do not want to mediate him to a male dog either. A nice, confident female dog by his side, however, we can imagine very well - of course after prior acquaintance. Joe is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. What Joe needs now is not pity. He needs people who see what a great dog he is in front of them. People who understand that a dog does not have less joie de vivre just because his world has become a bit quieter. Joe has lost his owner and has already had to cope with a difficult cut. Now he should not just get somewhere. Now he should come home again. ❤️ To people who take him as he is. Who communicate with him, even if he may not hear their voice. And who show him that after a big loss, something really beautiful can start again. 🐾 Joe is not looking for just any place. Joe is looking for his people. If you are interested in our handsome Joe, please fill out our questionnaire.

Was Joe jetzt braucht, ist kein Mitleid. About Joe

What life with Joe looks like

Joe is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Listenhunde Nothilfe in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Listenhunde Nothilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Listenhunde Nothilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Listenhunde Nothilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
