Joey

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Puppy · 11 months

Joey is looking for an adult-only home. He could live with other dogs and potentially cats and small animals though we have no history of his behaviour around such animals. Joey is a lovely young boy who sadly finds the world around him quite worrying and overwhelming at the moment. Occasionally, he lets his guard down for a few moments and will have some zoomies, so we sometimes get to see glimpses of the happy, carefree boy he has the potential to be. Once he’s comfortable with you, he’s an affectionate little lad who seeks reassurance from his human friends. He hasn’t yet relaxed enough to play or interact with toys, but will take treats from those he’s familiar with. We have no background information on Joey’s life prior to his arrival here at the shelter and so we don’t know what kind of home environment he’s been used to previously. He desperately needs to find a forever family who can provide him with the love, safety and stability he deserves, who can help him build his confidence and learn that the world isn’t such a scary place. Joey is looking for a home with experience of nervous dogs, who can offer him the time, patience and understanding he needs and who can allow him to settle in at his own pace whilst he finds his feet and overcomes his worries. We have no doubt that, once he’s made himself at home, he will make an incredibly rewarding addition to his forever family.

About Joey

What life with Joey looks like

Joey is a small puppy/kitten jack russell terrier dog waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
