Meet Rustee – a lively and characterful 9 year-old Jack Russell Terrier cross who came into our care via the local animal warden service and has quickly shown himself to be a classic small terrier, full of spirit and personality. He would be best suited to an experienced terrier owner who understands the typical traits of the breed and can appreciate his nature. He is looking for a home with a secure garden, ideally with solid boundaries of at least 5ft, where he can safely explore, fetch balls or just relax. Like most terriers, Rustee has a very high prey drive and is not comfortable around other dogs, so he will need to be the only pet in the home. Due to his nature, any children in the household will need to be aged 16 or over. While Rustee is an energetic little dog, he could quite comfortably be a home and garden dog, providing his owner is happy to devote sufficient time to engage with him through toy play and enrichment activities such as sniffy games. He can go for long walks in quieter areas, away from other dogs and wildlife, but this is not essential. To keep him and other animals safe, Rustee would need to remain on lead at all times when out and about and would be required to wear a muzzle, which he is comfortable doing but will need ongoing support. A disclaimer will need to be discussed and signed at the point of adoption to ensure his new owners fully understand and are committed to these needs. Once Rustee builds a bond with his people, his affectionate side really begins to shine. He'll cheekily stare at you for attention whether that’s fetch, treat games or a full on body scratch or just snuggle up to keep you company while you’re busy.
