adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Johan has found his luck! His story: Johan had a lot of luck and was already able to travel to a foster home. Johan originally came from Bistrita in Romania, where he was taken to the animal shelter by a dog catcher. It broke our hearts to see him in his cage, whimpering all day. Unfortunately, we don't know his story, but something terrible must have happened to him. Upon arriving in Germany, it became clear that he had to endure terrible pain and was very afraid. He has since undergone surgery and medical care. His medical reports included a docked tail, torn claws, meniscal and cruciate ligament tears, fungus and bacteria in his ears, and gum disease. His body is also scarred. Despite all these injuries, pain, and what he must have endured, Johan has never shown any aggression towards people or dogs. His medical treatment by the small animal surgery at LMU Munich is now complete, and the chief veterinarian is very satisfied with the result. During the cruciate ligament surgery, a plate was implanted that will remain in the leg. He needs regular physiotherapy and pain medication as needed. His insecurities, however, he has already overcome well. Only in very turbulent situations do they still come to the fore. He gets along excellently with dog buddies and is very happy to be out with them. He ignores cats. Johan is approximately 5 years old and 57 cm tall. He is looking for a quiet, loving, and empathetic home in the countryside that will allow him to settle in peace and give him security and time to find his way in his new life. A direct garden access would be paradise for him. An independent only-dog home would certainly be good for him, but it is not a must. Johan is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. Thank you many times Melanie! You gave Johan his name. Status: 03.02. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Melanie! Du hast Johan seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 03.02.2025

About Johan

What life with Johan looks like

Johan is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Johan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Johan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Johan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Johan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Johan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Johan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Johan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
