Joker &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Joker is an abandoned dog; the previous owners had underestimated his size and the effort required, leading to the difficult decision to find him a more suitable home. Previous adoptions have always fallen through, but Joker is not to blame. He lives with female dogs here, but even in a mixed group, Joker has adapted without any problems. For some male dogs, we recommend introducing him securely and under supervision to new acquaintances. The same applies to other animals; so far, he only knows living with fellow animals. And the braking, that still needs to be explained to him… Of course, he still needs work on leash manners and basic obedience, as well as adapting to common environmental stimuli and everyday situations. He is a blank slate and has not yet learned much, but he is not as easy to train as a leaf in the wind. We wish to find a family for Joker who can enjoy his joie de vivre and not shy away from attending dog training classes. This will help further train his compatibility with other dogs and allow him to learn the dog ABCs together with his new owners. Since he is always eager to learn, this will surely bring joy to all sides. Who would like to welcome Joker into their new life and share some fun with the witty and friendly Kasperkopf? It seems there will be several interested in the number…

DE·Show original

About Joker &#8211

What life with Joker &#8211 looks like

Joker &#8211 is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joker &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joker &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joker &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joker &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joker &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joker &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joker &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
