Adopt Joschi

Male · Adult · 4 years

The handsome and agile Schnauzer-Mix Joschi is a nearly 4-year-old, people-oriented, loving, and cuddly dog. He is very eager to learn and wants to work with his people and please them. He already knows basic commands, and leash training is currently being worked on. Here, he makes progress every day. He loves nature, enjoys going for walks, and is an enthusiastic swimmer! Joschi has a pronounced enthusiasm for nose work and search games and shows great potential in this area. Originally, Joschi came to us from our Hungarian partner shelter as a puppy and had the good fortune of finding a family quickly. Unfortunately, it turned out that his happiness was short-lived. As he entered puberty, his people were no longer willing to invest time in him and his education. They found him annoying and exhausting, did not properly indulge him, and simply put a muzzle on him in stressful situations, without making an effort to curb unwanted behavior. He no longer had trust in them. As a result, he developed a fear of new situations. Instead of withdrawing, he often chooses to react loudly and insecurely in such moments. His impulse control and frustration tolerance need to be worked on. To those he trusts, he gives his heart completely. New people are mostly initially scary to him. However, if he is greeted in peace, he warms up quickly. He needs a loving and consistent upbringing, structure, and most of all, time and patience. When he is agitated, he needs a clear instruction of what to do. Then he follows the command reliably and is happy about this clear guidance. For those willing to work with him, he will become a wonderful, loyal canine companion who adores them. Children in his new family should already be in their teenage years and know how to respectfully handle dogs. He gets along well with the teenagers in his foster family. Joschi knows how to drive, is house-trained, and gets along with other dogs, although he needs to get to know them first. His new owners should already have dog experience and be ready to continue working with Joschi. A home in a low-stress environment would be desirable. Joschi would not object to living with a stable, only-dog in the new family, to which he can orient himself, but this is not necessary. Joschi is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, dewormed, and not kept in a kennel. Brief info: Name: Joschi (Castor) Gender: Male dog, neutered Age: 01.01.2022 Shoulder height: ca. 50 cm Location: 12529 Schönfeld Origin: Hungary Color: black-white Other: None

Keine Zwingerhaltung. Kurzinfo Name Joschi (Castor) Geschlecht Rüde kastriert Alter 01.01.2022 Schulterhöhe ca. 50 cm Standort 12529 Schönefeld Herkunft Ungarn Farbe schwarz-weiß Sonstiges k.A.

About Joschi

What life with Joschi looks like

Joschi is a large adult dog waiting at animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen in Ketzin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joschi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joschi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joschi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joschi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joschi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joschi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joschi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
