Oskar

Male · Adult · 7 years

This playful companion is named Oskar, born around May 1, 2014, and he can be a bit clumsy with his large paws. Oskar gets along well with other dogs and is very friendly and affectionate with people. Oskar is a quiet, even-tempered type who doesn’t bark. He thinks people are great and loves to cuddle. With his shoulder height of almost 70 cm, it’s already impressive to walk next to him. He’s already familiar with driving and handles it with sovereign ease. His previous family made him into a stick and ball junkie. He constantly drops the stick in front of you, so you have to be careful not to trip over it or the stick. On the field and in the woods, you can walk with Oskar without a leash. He responds wonderfully to calls. When he plays with the stick, wild animals might also give him a nip, but he shows no interest in chasing them. Oskar was found emaciated while begging in front of an Italian restaurant. He had severely infected ears, severe skin problems, and heartworms. His blood values were terrible. In the meantime, everything has been treated. Now he’s back to being a handsome fellow with good blood values. However, he’s now almost deaf and has skin problems that are well managed with hypoallergenic food. Oskar can also stay alone at home for a few hours without any problems and is, of course, house-trained. Who will give this truly loyal sheepdog soul another chance at a lifelong loving home?. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

DE·Show original

About Oskar

What life with Oskar looks like

Oskar is a large adult dog waiting at animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen in Ketzin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oskar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
