Adopt Ares

Male · Puppy · 12 months

The beautiful Ares wandered through the streets of Hungary before coming to our Hungarian partner shelter. His past is unknown to us, but it’s clear he hasn’t experienced much love. The sweet one now has the good fortune to move into a foster family in Berlin. Currently, he lives in an apartment with garden access, problem-free with two other dogs. Ares greets all people kindly and shows great openness. He seeks cuddles and likes to rest his head gently in someone’s hand. Ares is a delicate, calm soul of a dog who simply must have a place in someone’s heart. With other dogs, Ares is compatible, but if they push him, he might make a stand if he can’t avoid them. The sweet one already runs well on a leash. During a cat test, Ares tried to dissolve into the air. We are sure he would also get along well with nice cats after getting used to them. Ares is very thin, so a large blood test was done. His liver values are too high. Therefore, Ares now receives Mariendiestel in his particularly low-fat food. The reason for the bad liver values has not yet been found. It is likely due to an old infection. To avoid further burdening his liver with anesthesia, we have not neutered him. In a quick test, Ares tested positive for heartworms. Normally, he would receive Doxycycline (antibiotic) for 30 days and Advocate (Spot On for the skin) for over 12 months to kill the heartworms. However, due to his liver values, this is not currently possible. Currently, we can only prevent reproduction and the spread of existing heartworms with Advocate (Spot On, about 20€ per month). We do not know if Ares will fully recover or have a long life expectancy. What we do know is that the dear fellow, with his wonderful nature, deserves a home with a family that loves him. For Ares, we wish for a family, preferably one with older, calmer children who live at the edge of town or in a very quiet neighborhood. They should offer him a place of grace, but also be prepared to accept that the young Ares might still accompany them for many more years. Ares seeks people who give him time, patience, and love, and who provide the security that has been denied to him so far. As always, we remind you that a dog from the international animal shelter needs time, patience, and a loving welcome. New impressions, new routines, and new bonds should grow in peace. Those who are ready to walk this path together will be rewarded with a very deep connection. Ares is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, medically examined, and equipped with an EU pet passport. Brief info: Name: Ares (Abyss) Breed: Male dog neutered Date of Birth: 01.06.2024 Shoulder Height: ca.

About Ares

What life with Ares looks like

Ares is a large puppy/kitten dog waiting at animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen in Ketzin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with animals care - Tierschutz ohne Grenzen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
