Joseph

Podenco · Male · Adult · 5 years

Joseph came to us after being found all alone wandering the streets in Marbella, without a microchip, and as we see the trend lately, we are guessing he was dropped off by a hunter most likely, as more and more Podencos are suddenly just being found on the streets. Joseph was skinny and had poor fun when he arrived, and he looked much older than he apparently is according to the veterinary. Joseph recovered quickly, and when he realised that there is yummy food available in the shelter, his mood improved directly, and his first shyness disappeared. Joseph is a proper Podenco who loves to wander around in the bushes, chasing smells and keeping himself busy. He is quite an independant boy and is not clinging to the human. He likes to be around other dogs, and invites them to play, both male & female, but at the same time, he is also very able to just go wander by himself, casually checking in if you and the pack are still there, and then going again to the bushes to investigate. Joseph has a really beautiful photogenic face, but it's almost impossible to get him to stay still for the camera, he always has somewhere to go! Joseph likes snacks and stays still for a moment for a good snack, but he is not overly obsessed with food, and will not run you over when you have something yummy in your pocket. He walks well on the leash, though at the moment in the shelter of course due to lack of movement, he pulls a bit on the leash initially but once he has his time in the dog park, he is calm again. Very often we find Joseph and his best friend Willow playing and wrestling in their kennel. Joseph was also the one to help a shy Podenco and a scared little Pinscher come out of their shells of worry, and to become confident and playful. Joseph would do very well in a home environment with a female Podenco or similar dog, with who to run and go on adventures. Joseph does have his character as well and he is not a victim, and therefore his is looking for a home who are knowledgable about canine communication between dogs, and do not label open communication like a growl or showing teeth, as a negative behaviour. Joseph has not been to the town yet, but since he is quite a confident boy, then we believe that together with another dog, he would also do well living in a suburban environment. Of course, closeness of nature is important for every Podenco. He has already been checked medically and is negative for Mediterranean diseases. His shoulder height is approximately 52cm.

About Joseph

What life with Joseph looks like

Joseph is a medium-sized adult podenco dog waiting at Triple A Marbella in Marbella.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joseph, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joseph?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Triple A Marbella handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joseph on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joseph if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Triple A Marbella will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joseph already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joseph isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Triple A Marbella early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joseph and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
