Adopt Josie

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 18 months

Josie, our beautiful calico, came into our rescue as a stray, she was heavily pregnant and almost immediately after coming in gave birth to 5 gorgeous babies. Josie was always very timid and has come on leaps and bounds since that very first day she arrived. She is only 18 months old herself and hopefully now she can finally have a home where she will be cared for and loved, as she is such a shy girl it may take a little while for her to trust you but she is so gentle and loving once that bond with a human is made we know it will be a very special one. We are looking for a peaceful home for Josie where she can feel safe and explore at her own pace. The most suitable home would be with a couple or single person although a family home would be considered. Josie is obviously used to being outside so would need a home where there is a safe green area away from hazards (main roads, rivers, railway lines) that she can play in when the time is right. Josie has been neutered now, vaccinated and microchipped, flead and wormed and of course vet checked. If Josie sound like she would be a good match to your situation then please read our Adoption Policy and complete an Application form below. Adoption fee of £100 applies.

About Josie

What life with Josie looks like

Josie is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Heatons Cat Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Josie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Josie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Heatons Cat Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Josie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Josie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Heatons Cat Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Josie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Josie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Heatons Cat Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Josie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
